Connected Health & Autonomy
The term Connected Health covers many fields but they all share one central mission of harnessing the power of technology to deliver tomorrow’s healthcare solutions. Information and communication systems are at the heart of eHealth. In the area of care they are used to track patient progress, analyze data to identify health markers, and provide information that enables medical decisions to be made quickly and accurately.
They are also powerful tools in the development of new technologies, a process which typically involves collaboration with a wide range of disciplines. Kyomed’s connected health platform is used to manage and co-ordinate the whole process, from initial design through to evaluation and implementation.
BRINGING EXPERTISE TO THE PATIENT’S BEDSIDE
Kyomed’s mission is to aggregate multi-disciplinary expertise to provide a development platform for innovation in healthcare and personalized medicine. We go further than conventional contract research organizations by working with clients every step of the way, from initial concept through to clinical trials and then onwards to what is often the global implementation of a successful medical innovation.
Our belief is that the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of human diseases can be revolutionized by coupling connected health technology with the latest advances in molecular science. Together they optimize and accelerate innovation in healthcare and ultimately benefit both patients and the professionals who care for them.
At Kyomed we support innovation in healthcare through three specialized services. In the area of connected health we enable collaborative innovation by drawing on the skills and experience of people with a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of healthcare. These are not just the medical professionals, scientists and technology experts – the Kyomed community also includes patients and their relatives who bring their own unique insights to healthcare developments.
Our network of inter-disciplinary expertise is also a valuable resource in our work on health markers and signatures, where we use eHealth technology to extract and analyze data that can indicate changes in health and provide pointers for accurate diagnosis. And finally we design and manage clinical trials that put innovative devices into the hands of the people who will be using them to determine their effectiveness and ergonomic appeal.
INNOVATION THROUGH USER EXPERIENCE
We get involved in these user experience (UX) trials from the very beginning. When a Kyomed customer has a new device, application or digital service they wish to bring to market we start by offering strategic advice on the most effective evaluation procedures for their product. We then design an evaluation process that delivers the required outcomes within the customer’s budget and time constraints.
Kyomed’s team manage the whole UX procedure – awarding contracts and supervising the contractors; choosing suitable evaluation sites; running feasibility studies; advising on the regulatory requirements of different countries; and ensuring that all safety standards are complied with. Kyomed’s particular strength in the UX process is our holistic approach. We are able to carry out evaluations that combine clinical results with user experiences to maximize cost-effectiveness while delivering the most comprehensive results possible.
None of this is achieved without direct experience. At Kyomed we understand that the only way to gain a full understanding of the challenges, ergonomic needs and medical demands placed on healthcare technology is to actually see and experience it in action.
We take a dynamic and responsive approach to evaluating the experience of users and this begins right at the beginning of the development process. Working with entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals we test new innovations and technologies in the real-life situations they will eventually be put to work in. And the feedback we get from this process enables our clients to refine their products to perfection before they release them to the market.
TRACKING THE PATHWAY OF CARE
Another area of huge potential for Kyomed’s connected health platform is in tracking the route a patient takes from diagnosis through treatment to a successful outcome. This digital care pathway brings significant benefits to patients and professionals by providing the health data needed to improve the quality of care, maximize cost efficiency, measure patient progress and monitor the effectiveness of specific medicines and treatment regimes.
It is especially useful for older patients, the ‘silver economy’, who might have more frequent needs for planned and monitored programmes of healthcare. Our strategic advice and management expertise ensures that these digital care pathways are implemented successfully to bring long term benefits to the people who are ultimately most important in the entire healthcare process – the patients.
